Disease Resistant Apple Cultivars for the Home Orchard |
|
All apple varieties can be grown organically. But fungal diseases can destroy the apple's appearance and make the apples less durable. Especially apple scab is a problem, that One would like to avoid. There are both old and new varieties, which we know from experience that they have a good resistance to diseases. There are a number of new varieties that are bred to be scab resistant, due to the Vf gene from Malus floribunda. But there are developed new scab races, why many apple varieties that were previously described as scab-resistant gets scab. |
