Red Aroma Apple

Aroma is a hybrid of the two Danish varieties Ingrid Marie and Filippa. It is made at the experimental station Balsgaard at Kristianstad in Sweden in 1973.

The original apples were almost completely green. Later, both in Sweden and Norway found branches with almost red apples. They have been propagated and sold as 'Red Aroma' and Amorosa. In Norway there are 2 red mutants called Ylvisåker and Hamre.

The tree is growing quite strongly. It is upright and open. The wood is very resistant to diseases, especially against apple scab, and suitable for organic cultivation. The tree blooms medium early and is very fruitful. It tends to second years bearing if no thinning.

The apple is large and very shapely round. Apples that have got sun is very beautiful crimson. Red Aroma is medium firm, juicy, tart-sweet. It has got a strong presence in the Nordic countries because of its superior fruit quality and health.

The apples are ripe for picking in late September and can keep the fine quality a few months if stored in cool place. Optimal eating quality in Week 39 - 47. (UK).

Aroma is very suitable as a garden variety. Is an excellent eating apple and is very suitable in the kitchen for all purposes.
