Red fleshed apple varieties
Malus Niedzweckyana or Niedzwetzky apples is an Central Asian wild apple (crab apple), which is characterized by very red color. The apple is dark red, the flesh is red, the leaves are reddish, flowers are red and the red color found even in the xylem. Only a smal number of wild Malus Niedzweckyana trees with redfleshed apples still exist in Kyrgyzstan.
Now, there are developed several apple varieties with a red color and more or less red flesh. It is believed that the color comes from the original wild apple Malus Niedzweckyana.
All over the world efforts are made to develope quality eating apples with red flesh. The red color is made up of antioxidants, why it should be healthy apples. Furthermore, it is also pretty attractive trees with dark reddish foliage, red flowers and red apples.
3 new apples Circe, Era and Sirena, are sold in England under the common name Redlove. It has taken Markus Kobelt, a Swiss fruit grower, 20 years to develope the apples.
Baya Marisa is a new German-developed apple variety, that should have eating quality. It is a cross between Weirouge and Zuchtklon 166, an unnamed variety.
