Alkmene Apple

Synonym Early Windsor.

The apple was developed in 1930 at the former Kaiser Wilhelm Institute, Brandenburg, Germany. It is a cross between Cox Orange and Oldenburg.

The tree grows quite weak. It is resistant to scab and powdery mildew, but can be attacked by fire blight and cancer.

Flowering is rich, but the yield is moderate. The flowers are very frost sensitive.

The fruits are small to medium, round orange red apples with green dots. Crunchy flesh sweet-sour with a powerful aromatic Cox-like flavor. Juicier than Cox Orange. The apple ripens a little earlier than Cox Orange.
