Mutsu Apple
Mutsu are developed in Amori, Japan as a cross between Golden Delicious and the Japanese Indo apple. The apple is named after the city of Mutsu on the island of Honshu, which is the center for Japanese fruit.
The tree grows rapidly with a few thick shoots and becomes a broad crowned tree. Susceptible to scab and cancer.
Flowering is late. The variety is triploid and unsuitable as a pollinator variety.
The fruit is large. The color of ripe apples are green-yellow tending to gold. Sunny side can be striped. The flesh is yellowish, delicate crisp and juicy. The taste is sweet and aromatic.
Harvested in late October and can be stored to February / March.
Mutzu is a well tasting winter apple, which are also suitable for cooking. It is less suitable as a garden variety, when the apples are attacked by scab.
