Akero Apple

An old Swedish apple, named after the name of the farm where the parent tree was found around 1850.

The tree is fast growing and it should have some shelter, so the fruit does not blow down. Fruiting occurs relatively late. Mature trees bear, however, quite reasonable.

The fruit is medium to large and are eggs or roll formed. The base color is greenish-yellow to pale yellow. Depending on the clone was planted varies cover color of the fruit very much. Some types are completely covered in brick red, while others are almost without topcoat. The flesh is yellow-white with a little green, quite firm and very juicy and delicious. Picked at the end of September, but ripens only true in November. Fully ripe fruits are considered the best eating apples.
